My work experience includes working in the Pharmaceutical, Health Insurance, Telecommunication and Transport Industries.
With my experience in data warehousing, working with large sets of data, and optimising SQL queries etc., I managed to make great improvements in reporting turnaround times by preparing the data correctly, building a framework model on top of that and minimizing the use of using large data sets. I headed the Cognos BI team developing and implementing reporting solutions to multiple clients throughout the UK and international. Our solution incorporated the development of a Data Warehouse for custom calculations and summaries, a Data Mart for self-service reporting, a Suite of online Reports including dashboards and visualizations for performance monitoring and management decisions. It was based on Maximo data stored in DB2 / Oracle databases. I also designed and delivered various client specific training courses to help the client using our solutions.

It included a complete history of the data at any point in time and was fully customizable i.e., cover as little or as much of the original database as needed.

I mainly worked as the only BI resource assisting the Network Performance department with all their reporting needs. I managed to develop a data mart using Oracle PL/SQL and Materialized Views containing the necessary measures to build KPI's on request as well as summarizing the data on Daily / Weekly / Monthly level. With this, I modelled the data in Framework Manager and developed a Dashboard solution using Cognos BI and Cognos for MS Office, that would summarize the complete network performance in 9 KPI's which was well received throughout the regions and soon the whole country was only using this Dashboard for network performance monitoring. I also managed to introduce a Big-Event Report Pack by collaborating with different teams in the business and adding additional filters to the data mart. This was widely used during the Football World Cup monitoring Mobile Network Performance in and around the sporting venues.

When I started at Discovery, all the data was manually captured into an access table and the report is run when all the data was completed. I developed a solution using MS Access and VBA to fetch the data directly from the source systems and thus avoiding manual interaction for the daily dashboard to run. I also managed to extract the Call centre stats from the Avaya system and automated that part of the daily dashboard. By automating this whole process, ensured accuracy and timely reporting which ensures Management Information was readily available to make important decisions.
