Responsibility for the operations and integration of aviation on behalf of the Goodwood estate and all it offers, sat with this diverse role. Development of long-term business direction and sole responsibility to deliver a complex P&L whilst utilizing the benefits of a matrixed organization, were dominant in the role. Delivered via a management team of subject matter experts, aviation was at the core of this role. The Aerodrome Operations, Flying School, Part 145 Maintenance and Commercial Partnerships and Events segregate the business into four unique but integrated departments. The role of GM of the Aerodrome at Goodwood presented challenges not common to other General Aviation airfields. Expectations of customer service standards that identify with the Goodwood brand were a 365 requirement. Integration with the internationally renowned sporting events and deluxe estate offerings required a broad and fluid skill set. Development of teams that delivered this alongside the complexities of an airfield operation was very rewarding.
During my time in this role there were two significant Cap-ex projects that required delivery. These were a complete design and implementation of regrade and drainage of the runway surfaces as well as the resurrection of the aerodrome building project that had been built with design and quality issues. The delivery of these projects supported the elevated profile of Aviation among the fiercely competitive and commercial culture of the Goodwood estate.
Of particular pride is the restructuring and development of the aviation team, some subtle changes have created a team that not only delivered operationally but employs an improved commercial and strategic approach.
