I have twenty three years' experience in communications and writing. After graduating from Oxford University with a First Class Honours degree, I joined the The Sunday Times as a journalist. I later worked as a communications adviser and writer for the UK Government and the World Health Organization where I became contributing News Editor on WHO's flagship monthly journal. More recently, as an independent PR/strategic communications consultant, I have advised and written for the NHS, academic institutions, NGOs, leading independent schools, charities, global financial services firms, property firms, executive search agents and many small businesses.
Recent work includes a wide ranging report on mental health for the NHS, a merger communications strategy (which included a crisis management strategy, as well as speeches, media releases and letters to key stakeholders), corporate messaging, advertisement text and web copy for new businesses.
I am particularly skilled in analysing and transforming complex, technical or simply disorganised information into clear, concise and compelling narrative. I am used to working with conflicting information from multiple sources and am happy to work on my own initiative. I am used to working for very busy people! Whatever the project, my objective is usually to distil and demystify, delivering a consistent message that resonates with audiences, whatever the industry.

Sherborne School and Sherborne Preparatory School Merger Communications Strategy
I was asked to design and deliver a communications strategy to inform key stakeholders of the merger of two high profile independent schools, alongside another more award announcement. The project comprised key messaging, timeline and the writing of nearly 15 different documents to different stakeholders with different interest in and anticipated reactions to the announcement. There was also a reputational risk relating to historical allegations connected to one of the two parties. The risk of a leak was also substantial and therefore a risk strategy was included too. As well as the messaging and strategy itself, I produced a timeline and wrote at least fifteen different documents including a news release, letters to multiple stakeholders, Q&As, speaking notes, speeches and position statements.

Ongoing corporate communications services for VFS International Ltd
I have provided ongoing communications support on a regular but ad hoc basis to a global financial services firm called VFS International, which is headquartered in Mauritius with operations all over the world. Initially we worked on corporate positioning and messaging which then informed the overhaul of all their written content including their website and brochures. I also write the brochures for new products and services and write regular advertorials in the international investor/financial services press.

Mental health strategy for regional NHS body - BNSSG
I was asked to co-produce a multi-stakeholder mental health strategy on behalf of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire commissioning group. We were asked to collate and analyse quantitative data from multiple and often conflicting sources, conduct interviews with experts and co-ordinate stakeholder contributions across the local NHS and Social Services providers. Based on the available statistical and qualitative evidence and our own research we designed and wrote content for an initial draft strategy.
