I'm offering
am an experienced, hands-on senior project manager with in-depth experience of the full
project lifecycle from conception through to delivery. I have significant experience leading a
wide variety of complex projects in a heavily regulated industry and delivering to time,
scope, budget and quality; including those with a technical focus.
I have extensive experience on a wide variety of long and short-term concurrent projects,
overseeing the development and delivery across the complete project life-cycle utilising
both the Prince2 and Agile methodologies.
Although I have not taken formal certification in Project Management, through study and
application, I have continued to stay on trend with various methodologies such as Prince2,
Agile, DSDM etc. and, have successfully applied these frameworks where appropriate to
best fit the business and project needs. Primarily using Microsoft Project and Microsoft
Office, I am very familiar with creating the usual project artefacts from Business Cases, Project Initiation Documents, Project Plans, Communication Plans, Risk & Issue Registers
right through to Lessons Learnt Logs and Change Control Plans.
I have effectively managed project budgets up to £750,000 and I have often delivered under
budget by reaching out to other Program/Project Managers across the organisation;
partnering with them to find common solutions, deliverables and resource as well as
experience and knowledge sharing.
With a real passion for change and improvement, I have innovated highly successful
processes, hybrid project management frameworks (to best suit organisation policy, culture
and business practices) as well as improving consistency and quality of deliverables across
my teams and projects and, the larger business. Many of the departmental changes I
implemented meant significant changes, not only in the way in which people worked, but
had positive impacts on team structure and collaboration and, resulted in substantial
qualitative and efficiency benefits. Further, my team was chosen to pilot the European
transformation program and many of the standards, frameworks and processes I put into
place were rolled out across the European offices.
I have a natural aptitude for identifying, analysing and mitigating risks/issues across complex
and interdependent projects (often before they arise). Employing tools such as SWOT
analysis to categorise and managed risk and ensuring clear procedures, escalation and
communication lines are in place. I am always keen to perform analysis on residual risk on
mitigated risks and issues, providing a solid effective solution to risk management.
Having both an analytical and creative mind-set, I am adept at problem solving and decision
making. However, when there is a requirement for project obstacles to be escalated, I
present them with options, solutions and recommendations, outlining the benefits and
constraints of each. When making autonomous critical decisions, I have the ability to
understand the impact they can have both operationally and within the wider political
context, as well as predict influences they may have on project deliverables, timelines and
budgets etc.
I am an accomplished communicator with a strong background in interpreting customer and
business needs and developing them into project deliverables for successful delivery. I am
proficient at documenting, disseminating and presenting audience appropriate (often
sensitive) data/information, from stakeholders through to senior exec level. I am
comfortable with; and actively seek to work with all levels and areas of the business and
outsourced parties as well as external suppliers, services and resource.
I proactively advocate continued inclusion, collaboration as well as actively promote
persistent buy-in through various communication channels such as stakeholder meetings,
regular project progress/status reports and presentations, workshops, project team standups as well as SME advisory meetings. I understand the audiences I disseminating information to and I am skilled at summarising complex data/information in an accurate and
concise manner and which is appropriate for the target audience.
As very much a team orientated individual and advocate of professional and personal
development, my natural preference is to take the role of a servant style leader. Often
establishing multiple workstreams within (and across) projects, I have been happy to
delegate responsibility to members of my team whilst maintaining overall control and
accountability for the project.
I am an excellent motivator of people. I employ, very much, a supportive role for both the
team and the team individuals. I have a great deal of experience managing multiple
concurrent teams across concurrent projects. I am very experienced in line management of
team members including matrix management of teams, managing physically located and
virtual teams and a combination of the two; finding innovative ways to make it more
collaborative and inclusive. I also have extensive experience in performance reviewing and
mentoring individuals in order to help them reach their full potential and to progress; taking
into consideration their goals and ambitions.
A good negotiator, influencer and natural problem solver, I have often and successfully
renegotiated changes to projects timescales, deliverables, benefits etc, as and when
changes occur and rebase-lining becomes necessary to realign with regulatory/business
changes or when arbitration is required to realise the needs of conflicting stakeholder
needs. My ethos has always been to encourage transparency, collaboration across projects,
my team and across the organisation. I believe this is fundamental to successful negotiation.
Having ran two departments and been solely responsible for large project portfolios, I am
very comfortable with balancing priorities across several projects which often require critical
and difficult decisions to be made. This is especially true when working to multiple tight
deadlines and often, with ever evolving business, stakeholder, policy and regulatory
goalposts.
I am extremely delivery, customer and quality oriented with ‘can-do’ attitude and a belief
that no problem comes without a solution. I am not only accustomed to working for long
periods under a great deal of pressure, but am also perfectly comfortable with it. I set
myself very high standards and never compromise on the quality of my performance
regardless of the pressures I am under.
Likewise, my ability to make intelligent, considered and sound practical and political
decisions is consistently excellent, regardless of the pressures I might experience. I am very
adaptable to differing project paces and very comfortable with projects requiring rapid
development release schedules.
