During my work experience at British Airways as a member of their Casualty Engineering team, I had the opportunity to work closely with their newest aircraft group, Boeing 787's and 12 Airbus A380's which had been grounded due to technical reasons. During this time I saw that the knowledge, teamwork, passion for excellence, rigor and skills of the engineers are safety critical in the aviation industry. Being able to work as part of a team under considerable pressure diagnosing faults accurately whilst ensuring safety procedures are adhered to at all times, was something that I found really motivating. During my time at Cova Security I was able to gain a key insight into the design and manufacturing world of engineering. I spend two weeks in total at the company which was split into first week working in the fabrication departing working with the team to manufacture the components which make up the high level security gates. My second week was in the design department where I worked with AutoDesk Inventor to develop components for up coming projects. During my time I learnt the importance of having a technical background in both manufacturing and designing to ensure the success of the project.

Potential Officer
Royal Navy.

I spent 3 days onboard HMS Ocean, sailing from Greenwich, to Plymouth as a Potential Officer on the "Look at Life" initiative being run by the Royal Navy. Whilst onboard I was able to work with Officers, Able Seamen and Royal Marines working in various departments. I witnessed the effect of excellent teamwork, communication and leadership needed by all on board to enable the ship run effectively. This invaluable experience reinforced my understanding of the necessary skills that make good teams into effective teams.
