EMC Medical Services is a private medical company specialising in Non-Emergency Patient Transport and medical cover for events, employing c.40 staff. Employed as the first and only HR professional within the company.
Main responsibilities and achievements:
• Produced and amended policies - including recruitment, DBS and GDPR - in line with NHS and CQC requirements to ensure compliance.
• Managed the recruitment process from advertisement to induction, focusing specifically on the attraction and selection elements of the process to ensure the company hired only the most suitable candidates.
• Prepared the monthly payroll.
• Managed complex HR cases and coached management to deal with cases to reduce turnover.
• Rewrote job descriptions and interview questions to better evaluate the quality of candidates.
• Designed and implemented a bespoke Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to streamline the recruitment process and decrease time per hire.

HR Shared Service Recruitment Team Leader
Bodleian Libraries and Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford.
Originally employed on a temporary basis at the Ashmolean Museum, I was then given the chance to lead the recruitment team when the Ashmolean and Bodleian HR teams merged. In total, the departments employed over 1,000 members of staff, and I had line management responsibility for four Recruitment Assistants.
Main responsibilities and achievements:
• Moved the recruitment team from a paper-based to electronic approach, allowing for easier handover during times of absence, and also cutting down the cost and waste of paper.
• Redistributed responsibilities within the team, giving the Recruitment Assistants more responsibility commensurate of their pay grade, to both speed up the recruitment process and give them a better development opportunity.
• Monthly reporting to senior management team at the Libraries and Museum
• Chaired interview panels
• Approved all new starter salaries and monthly payroll changes
• Provided advice to staff at all levels on a range of HR issues and supporting the HR admin, employee relations and staff development teams when required
• Reviewed and amended the induction process, leading to a time saving of approx. 3 hours per week, per Recruitment Assistant.
• An active member of the university's staff immigration focus group, working with staff from other university departments to discuss issues and provide fixes to the process from both the university and customer perspective.
