job
User Experience Architect
IBM United Kingdom Ltd, Hursley Park.
User centred design lead and accessibility lead for CICS Transaction Server v2.2, v2.3 and v3. User experience specialist for CICS Transaction Server v2.1.
What I learned
I learnt that if you solved other peoples' problems they will listen to you in the future. I learned that the best way to influence people is to do it yourself - if you lead by example, they will follow.
Highlights and achievements
I developed (with Paul Hopewell and Phil Parry) a new notation for describing syntax that can be used by screen readers. This notation was adopted by the CICS Transaction server and MQ Series Information Centers (electronic documentation). I won a special project bonus for my work on accessibility for CICS Transaction Server v2.1. I helped set up a user centered design team, incorporating stakeholders from brand, publications, technical architects, and the user community to lead the design of CICS releases from v2.2 onwards.
