THE MERCURE WESSEX HOTEL.
As one of three shift supervisors tasked with managing the food & beverage and bar teams respectively,
my duties were to ensure that my team of 5-10 staff members, including waiters, bartenders and kitchen
porters, performed to the highest of standards on a consistent basis. This included setting shift-by-shift
targets and daily goals to maintain staff morale, and frequently holding team meetings at the start and end of every shift to motivate and encourage, particularly on days where large functions were
happening. I engaged on a personal level with my team through one-to-one reviews, and always made it
my highest priority to listen to any concerns or anxieties, while giving advice and criticism in a
constructive and professional manner. I also promptly dealt with any customer complaints, and always
made sure the needs of the guests were exceeded in any way that I could.

After working for a year as a Food and Beverage Assistant and discovering a passion for hospitality, I
was promoted to the position of Bar Supervisor at the same hotel. I took this generous offer after
realising that my interest in the hotel industry lay primarily in the bar aspect of the position, and have since developed an aptitude for wine and cocktail mixology. My responsibilities as Bar Supervisor
included running a small team of bar staff, maintaining a consistently spotless and presentable bar and
lounge area, monitoring stock and orders within the bar and generally presenting excellent customer
