My role was primarily to ensure the timely introduction of new projects and components through the APQP (Advanced product quality planning) process in association with manufacturing, quality and suppliers to develop our product range and to meet specific customer requirements and develop the PPAP (Production part approval process).
Key responsibilities; -
• Cross company liaison with the Design / Product Managers in USA HQ and China
• Coordinating across the company and supplier base to successfully source components and tooling (press, laser and brake, die-cast and injection moulding)
• Review and visit potential suppliers with SQE / Quality Manager and Purchasing to ensure design and quality requirements can be fulfilled
• Chair DFMEA (Design failure mode and effect analysis) to ensure product risks and the testing needed to mitigate risks to ensure a successful product launch
• Chair Design for Manufacture and Assembly reviews, Process flow and PFMEA (Process failure mode and effects analysis) to determine optimal process routing and establish required quality checks are captured on to the control plan and quality paperwork
• Determine and execute the DVP&R (Design verification plan and report) to collate testing required, write test specifications, monitor results and corrective actions
• Headed up project meetings to monitor product and process completion (APQP tracking)
• Produced part costing and pricing with Manufacturing, Purchasing and Sales functions
• Produce and monitor timing plan with RASIC (responsible, approves, supports, is informed, is consulted) roles
• Guide and motivate a team of 4 Design Engineers developing new products and providing application support to surpass customer requirements and agreed design briefs.
• Product line review with sales function to review opportunities, market trends, identify gaps in product offering, review competitors' products and identify potential market segments to target
