Business Analyst
Greater Manchester Police.
January 2016 - present: Web Design
I am working from home as a freelance website designer mainly on short contracts to upgrade or amend websites built with open source CMS. I created some websites using open source CMS such as Joomla and Magento.
6 Month Contract as Business Analyst with Greater Manchester Police
I worked on 2 specific tasks - the program to remodel the GMP custody suites to enable savings of £2million over 5 years and a separate project to deliver a reporting 'dashboard' to show the force wide performance of the new local policing model.
On the custody suite tasks - I worked closely with GMP in Finance, Change Department staff and senior officers to gather data for the business case for phase one of the custody remodelling. I wrote the first draft of the business case and worked with the project team to produce the final version for the approval of the GMP Chief Officer's Group. The COG approved the business case for
Implementation in early November. I then worked on the reporting system for local policing which gave an overall view of performance across the GMP force. It was constructed using advanced Excel techniques with extensive navigation so that senior officers could 'drill down' to see performance at beat level. I documented the performance dashboard and did a formal handover to GMP staff before I left.

job
requests and complaints from council staff
Blackburn Borough Council.
(2012 - 2015) and Greater Manchester Police (August 2015 - December 2015).
At Salford I helped to develop Salford's own BPR methodology (SPRINT) which many other authorities have adopted. SPRINT is based on the idea of training and empowering practitioners to analyse processes in their areas of work (using graphical tools such as MS Visio) then helping them to improve the processes, document the new processes and working practices - and then specify IT requirements needed to implement the changes..
I have worked with Salford l Customer Services staff on a major initiative to use SPRINT to improve the delivery of services to Salford Citizens. I led workshops to get ideas from front line staff on how to change working practices to improve service delivery. I supported selected practitioners (known as 'change champions) in implementing improved processes in several front line functions - which increased customer satisfaction and bettered Salford's Key Performance Indicator for 'reducing avoidable contact'. At Salford I also worked closely with HR staff to define as-is and to-be processes for dealing with casework arising from queries, requests and complaints from council staff. After I had presented the process analysis to HR, the Head of HR requested a new online system to manage HR casework. I worked as part of a development team to design and implement the new HR case management system. I did a great deal of work with HR staff to define and agree their requirements which I documented and later worked on the design of the new system and specified programs for developers.
I have been trained in several structured analysis methods and in Enterprise Architect (a tool for defining requirements using an object oriented approach with UML diagrams). The method allows business analysts to involve customers in defining functional requirements in scoping documents which define the functional requirements and a solution overview. The method is features requirements capture with Use Cases which are developed into comprehensive Use Case reports. I have expertise in producing accurate and comprehensive Use Case reports which I agree with users then use to develop functional requirements with class diagrams for developers code from. I have worked with Waterfall methods (using Prince2) for implementing systems since 1990. More recently I worked with the Agile method developed by Salford IT based on the use of Enterprise Architect which involved stakeholders, analysts and developers working closely together to develop requirements specifications and implement systems with more involvement from non IT stakeholders.
