Developing, maintaining and troubleshooting the company's bespoke SQL/MS Access database for nearly 20 years.
Identifying where there is a gap in the various operational processes; designing, implementing and testing solutions.
Over time, the role has not just been a development/programming one; Having an overview of each department's role means I can see where both human and computerised processes can be improved.
Main achievements within this role include:
- Identifying a gap between sales and operations and creating an order trail, with alerts, progress notes, and a management overview module. This helped with transparency between the two departments and across the whole business and helped with further forecasting for upcoming business.
- creating a sales quarterly performance review system with league tables, automated from daily stored procedures. This meant the sales manager could review any member of the sales or surveying team at any point with just a click of a button.
- create a subcontractor purchase order system to integrate with the existing purchasing system. This not only helped the operations manager (who previously had had to come in for one day a month at the weekend to work on the subcontractors' invoices!) but also the accounts department who did not have to individually calculate each listed job. An added bonus was for job costing as subcontractor expenses for each job were automatically assigned.
- adapt an off the peg scheduling calendar into a fully bespoke dynamic appointment schedule for surveyors and field staff.
