Summary
Provide acute and holistic care to Adult and Paediatric patients immediatly post operatively with complex health issues in a 14 bedded unit.
Key Resposibilities
• Maintain patient airway and utilise the ABCDE approach to assess and respond to clinical needs

Provide ongoing specialist care to both HDU and ITU patients requiring organ support, utilising the ABCDE approach to assess, evaluate, respond and treat the fluctuating conditions of extremely ill patients whilst supporting their family during a critical time.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess and respond to clincal fluctuations in both level 2 and level 3 patients who require organ support, predominately cardiac and respiratory and to escalte concerns to the ITU Consultant
• IV mediction administration including inatropes, sedatives, analgesia, anti emetics, anti histamines and antibiotics on strict timescales and to ensure central and peripheral lines were flushed and suitable to be used accordingly.
• Ensuing medications are set correctly in pumps and more medication is available in a timely manner for when the infusions complete.
• Practice enhanced clinical skills, such as central line care, tracheostomy care and ventilation support, documenting parameters accurately.
• Strict documentation adhearance, both for litigation purposes and to follow the quality and audit policies locally in place.
• Liase with specialist teams for the management of various issues, such as Diabetic Nurse Specialist, Dietician, SALT, Physiotherapist, Urology and Colorectal teams, Pain Nurses and Organ Donation.
• Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbally and written to support not only the patient but their families who often make difficult decisions in the patients best interests.
• To take and report on blood results including ABG and to administer drugs accordingly from a daily prefilled prescription chart, such as Magnesium or Calcium replacment, thus developnig autonomous nursing skills
• Work closely with other departments, ensuring the smooth transition of level 2 patients to level 1 and thus return to a ward environment, sometimes supporting the patient on the ward when asked to do so.
