• After AIMS helped me with the birth of my third daughter, I joined them to see if I could give something back. After initially doing voluntary work, I then joined the committee and later became a trustee.
• I helped to start AIMS talks. I enjoyed the logistical challenges of planning, executing and then evaluating these events. This was a very successful project. We gained new members and good local engagement. It sharpened my organisation skills, taught me how to plan events, how to promote events and gave me a crash course in public speaking.
• My work at AIMS taught me a lot of varied skills. Including: creating and maintaining a social media presence, helping with helpline work, database work, campaigning and networking.
• During this time I was also on the MSLC (Maternity Services Liaison Committee) at Bristol's Southmead Hospital. I took part in a NICE Quality Standard for Hypertension in Pregnancy panel. Lastly, I wrote a birth blog, which had around 400 regular readers. Several of my posts were published in various journals, including AIMS.

• I do not feel that raising my children is a career break as such. For it to be so would imply that I have learnt nothing from it that could enrich my future career.
• Looking after my three girls has been the hardest, most rewarding thing I've ever done. As a result I can take on pretty much anything without hesitation. I've become a motivated, resilient problem- solver.
