Career break
unknown.
Following the birth of my second child in December 2018, I took the decision to take a career break and concentrate on my family commitments. Whilst parenting can be sometimes be challenging, I have acquired new skills which I feel are transferrable to my professional competencies and have improved my experience and career potential: responsibility, adaptability, time prioritisation, problem solving, negotiation, communication, and influencing skills have all improved over this time, as has my ability to deal with emergencies and unforeseen events in a calm and decisive manner.

Development Engineer
Energetix.
I was responsible for the development and testing of a control system for a micro combined heat and power unit for domestic use.
My primary task here was to develop software specifications and validation plans by liaising closely with mechanical and thermodynamic engineering teams.
In addition, a key responsibility was to conduct experimental hardware and software testing of the new system through its validation phase.
I led discussions regarding requirements with external hardware and software suppliers, as well as collaborating closely with cross-functional teams within the business.
This role gave me the opportunity to work within a research and development environment which presented many new challenges at this stage of my career.

Role: Contracted Electrical Engineer (Bentley Motors LTD)
This role was based in the Electrical Engineering Department within Bentley Motors, taking on the position of feature owner for the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) electrical system.
I project managed the design, delivery and integration within the vehicle electrical architecture of vehicle HVAC electrical system. I worked closely with mechanical engineers and suppliers to develop a system specific to Bentley that met project specifications whilst utilising existing technology where possible.
I was responsible for updating circuit schematics, specifications, reports and test plans through different vehicle build phases. I made use of rigs, simulators and concept vehicles to validate system functionality. I provided technical input in many situations regarding engineering and commercial problem solving.
This was a challenging role that increased my ability to adapt to change, prioritise and organise my workload to meet ever-changing goals and milestones. Due to the economic downturn and the recession within the automotive industry my contract came to an end in February 2009.

2006 - 2007
job
Test Development Engineer
Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions.
This was my first Engineering position and was as part of a graduate program. My initial placement with Teradyne was within the Honda automotive team where I began developing diagnostic applications using in-house software (similar to Pascal). Here I gained a first exposure to different vehicle system functions and development processes as well validation procedures and techniques.
My second placement with Teradyne was within the Ford and JLR development team, where I worked primarily on bug fixes for the new single point authoring techniques that were being rolled out across Ford and JLR at the time. I gathered customer requirements from the Engineers at Ford, and analysed log files and XML scripts to identify issues.
My time at Teradyne gave me valuable insights and experience of the automotive industry and it's development and diagnostic processes; I was keen to develop my career after this experience and decided to accept a contract position within the development team at Bentley Motors to further develop my knowledge and skills within a world-leading luxury OEM.
