Search Technician
Sussex Search and Rescue.
Sussex Search and Rescue (SusSAR) is one of many Lowland Search & Rescue units which exist across the country. We are affiliated to ALSAR who co-ordinate the county based groups and set the training standards we have to adhere to. As a 100% volunteer organisation our members give their time free of charge and expect nothing in return but satisfaction of a job well done.
We can be called out by Sussex Police and neighbouring units at any time of day or night. Our Team are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year whatever the weather. Most callouts are to search for vulnerable missing people such as the elderly, dementia sufferers, despondents, children and anyone deemed to be at risk. Our task is to locate them and return them to a place of safety.
Our Team train regularly to keep up the high standards and professionalism required by Sussex Police and ALSAR. Members are qualified in search techniques, first aid, navigation, tracking, bike searching, water awareness, communications, search planning and management. Both training and being an operational member of the team requires a high level of commitment. Volunteers are also required to assist with valuable fundraising which helps to keep the unit running.

Games Maker
Olympic Stadium.
2012 Olympics
Volunteered as a Games Maker as part of the Ticket Resolution Team at the Olympic Stadium for the London 2012 Olympics. The work involved sorting out problems with tickets and, at times, required a high level of diplomacy and patience. Sorting out issues with problem seats, bad views, visitors with disabilities who couldn't reach their seat and lots more, all with a smile. Loved the teamwork and had a great time. I have gone on to join the Games Maker Choir and have performed the anthems on the pitch at Wembley Stadium for the Rugby League World Cup, at Twickenham for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and at the Opening Ceremony of the World Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium. I also sang at the March for Women alongside Annie Lennox at the London City Hall in March 2017.
