Programme Manager
Dreams Come True.
is a national charity that fulfills the dreams of children and young adults with serious or life limiting conditions,
dreams which can include specialist equipment, supported travel or once in a lifetime experiences. The Hidden Communities
programme was born out of the realisation that dream beneficiaries from economically deprived backgrounds made up less that
3% of overall dreams identified and delivered. Funded with a £1.2m grant from The Kentown Wizard Foundation, the Programme
Manager Role was created to implement the programme from initial concept document to delivery of yearly targets (up to 5 years), with the additional benefit of creating and implementing modern working practices that can be utilised across the existing core
programme:
● Created all project plans and methodologies, consultation papers, operational manual, policies and procedures,
fundraising strategy for programme to become self sustaining over 4 years.
● Identified and developed partnerships organisations across the 3 programme regions to ensure targeted referrals were
received from professionals working closely with potential beneficiaries, local panels were created in partnership with Birmingham Children's Trust, Birmingham Children's Hospital, Manchester Early Help Services at Manchester City
Council and Glasgow City Council.
● Researched, procured and implemented a number of new IT systems across the charity including Team Kinetic; an online
cloud based volunteering portal, to support the recruitment, retention and engagement of volunteers across the UK. This
included an additional suite of online training. In partnership with Webphoria, I designed and implemented a bespoke
cloud based interactive portal for dream families; families can log on to the portal to share their experiences of the dreams
processes, upload multi media (for marketing and promotion), and score wellbeing/emotional distance travelled enabling
us to collect quantitative data around the impact of the dreams experience for families (previously only anecdotal evidence
was collated.
● I oversaw the implementation of a number of smaller initiatives such as the use of QR codes and mobile contactless
devices for fundraising and a paperless referral system.
● I recruited and currently manage a team of 4 Regional Coordinators and a Dreams Coordinator with the programme
launching simultaneously across Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham in month 6, with dreams delivered in month 7.
● Year 1 targets were exceeded, all programme milestones reached on/ahead of time such as the framework, recruitment
and dream delivery.
● Volunteer numbers had a Target of 76 with the actual figure reached, 98. Appropriate dream referrals submitted had a
Target of 55, actual dream referrals totalled 78 and as a result, continuation funding for another year was secured.
● Member of Senior Leadership and Management Team, advising on organisational restructuring, modernisation and D&I
reporting to Board of Trustees and the board of the funding body on programme progress.

National Volunteering Manager
Healthcare and Fundraising.
Sue Ryder is a national charity providing, palliative, neurological and bereavement support via a network of hospices, residential
neurological centres and outreach services. The Volunteer Manager role was created to consolidate and streamline volunteering
services across the organisation, ensuring CQC compliance relating to volunteering within healthcare settings and to develop a
new tailored volunteering structure to support the newly developed South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub, providing tailored
volunteer support to those receiving EoL care in the community:
● Worked alongside UK wide Hospice Directors to matrix manage Volunteer Managers and Coordinators including the Befriending and Therapeutic Support Team. The aim was to improve cross hospice communication and embed a
consistent standard across the organisation, including the introduction of a lone working system to improve safety of volunteers, carrying out an internal audit measuring volunteering standards in our healthcare centres against CQC
guidelines. This was in part achieved by creating a virtual team using video conferencing to regularly hold practice sharing
forums, team meetings, with overall responsibility for over 1500 volunteers.
● Created a new inclusive asset based community volunteering Model (Giving Gateway) which removed barriers
traditionally associated with volunteering, and improved the scope and flexibility of the organisational volunteer offer by
allowing for volunteering interactions based outside of structured roles.
● Managed a successful pilot and roll out of the use of Community Payback volunteering in a supervised and supported
programme of building and ground maintenance in Stagenhoe Neurological Centre.
