My greatest passion in life is cybersecurity. Before arriving at the UK to pursue a masters degree at London Metropolitan University, I took advantage of each opportunity to build my skills in Morocco, such as working in a coworking space called TechVerse, as well as a company building mobile applications in the biomedical industry and that required growth hacking for their projects. I had the opportunity to volunteer at an event from the Google Developers Group about the cloud, and I built websites for a private school and an electronic press called MoroccoArtNews.
As interesting as these projects were, I was unable to move forward with my career in Morocco without further education. I thus moved to London in mid-2019 applied for my master's degree in Cybersecurity and computer networking. before the start of my semester in September 2019 I began attending events, connecting with other people in the field, I attended London TechXLR and stayed for a hackathon, I went to BlackHat Europe representing the company I am working for, I got to meet other people from different specialities, well-known researchers in the field and exchange ideas and talks about cybersecurity. This is all built on what I learned since a was a geeky teenager and of course, from the Bachelor's degree in network engineering and security, The one I received in Morocco at the Institut Ordiciel, as well as the OCP peer-learning coding school in Morocco "1337" that gave me a strong fundamental about coding, how does it work from the compiler to the memory blocks.
My university, London Metropolitan taught me many new things, for example, the law about cybercrime, digital forensics and how to catch the bad guys, and above all the new things you learn we took CCNP classes in real networking labs practising on real routers and switches, and we had a special lab only for cybersecurity containing powerful machines for pen-testing, every time we attended to the lectures the next two hours are lab activity, we took a semester in pen-testing and cyber management, the other semester we had lab activities in digital forensics, practising with real write blocker to conserve the evidence for law investigations, playing around with the well-known software FTK, it was such an amazing feeling getting too close to the juristic part of cybercrime.
While I am studying as an Msc student I had a lot of free time for CTFs challenges, learning more about cybersecurity trendings, I thought of getting a remote job, I applied for a company that specializes in media copyright protection, the company by itself is like a family. Each one of us does his tasks and the other team take the data we gather and so on, and that's how I got a good taste on movies, by gathering leaked data and links of the products (films/series) from well known international film making companies, and I learned how to manage my own time wake up early even though I work from home and no one is supervising me.
My ultimate goal is to discover security issues, how these vulnerabilities are happening, and why they are happening so that I can find solutions to make our global network more secure. My dream is to become a researcher and fix the most difficult issues, and help innovate and advance discoveries around the new generation of networks, as well as IoT, blockchain, and AI. The internet needs to be better understood to ensure it remains secure and safe for the public, governments, and global commerce.
