job
legal secretary
CMS Cameron McKenna.
in the Real Estate Disputes team at CMS Cameron McKenna. During this role I have developed upon:
• Organisation - I help to arrange meetings, manage diaries and I am constantly re-arranging my tasks for the day to ensure that deadlines are met (this is particularly important while working in disputes as the deadlines are very strict);
• Flexibility - I have built upon my ability to adapt and change task to ensure that urgent deadlines are met - I also make certain that I keep a record of which tasks are outstanding so that I return to anything I may have had to stop doing to guarantee that nothing is missed;
• General secretarial skills - a typical day in my role involves:
- Performing a range of tasks given via digital dictation;
- Creating new matters, maintaining the matters to ensure information is correct and closing them;
- Arranging meetings, events and travel;
- Deeds management - Ensuring that deed schedules are correct and up-to-date, requesting deeds, returning deeds and updating an online system to show where deeds are.
I currently work within a team of four secretaries. We cover each other's work if someone is absent which has been beneficial as this has allowed me to work for a range of people who use different styles and techniques within their work so I have experienced a variety of working practices. I am able to work within the team (if we have a big project then we all work together to ensure it is finished on time) or to work independently to ensure that my personal deadlines for the fee earners that I work for are met (I currently work for a partner, an executive, three solicitors, a trainee solicitor and a paralegal). I am also a member of the Ablaze Reading Scheme - this involves visiting a local primary school to read with the children during my lunch break, I enjoy this as it is great to see the children improve their reading and become more confident doing so.

job
admin assistant
Osborne Clarke.
This role allowed me to further the skills that I developed during my ILEX secretarial diploma. I progressed from a reservations clerk (which involved creating the contract paperwork for purchasing a house) to an admin assistant during my time there. During my time at Osborne Clark I:
• Multi-tasked - I have trained a colleague to take over my role and moved into my new position simultaneously;
• Created and implemented new methods to help with the training such as a training manual and checklists to show when a colleague is fully trained;
• Listed to any feedback given and used this information to help make processes within the team run more smoothly;
• Supervised two members of the team (this includes delegating work, offering advice and ensuring that work was completed within the given time scale);
• Been solely responsible for ensuring that the trainees work has been to a high level.
