Financial Markets written work – 20 years

- I have written for hard copy publications such as the UK Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, WBJ, Rzeczpospolita, Financial Analyst and Money Magazine. I have also written comprehensively for a readership of Chief Investment Officers for leading Investment Banks on the macro and microeconomic markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

- I contribute to finance related blogs and online magazines on a regular basis.

Fintech and Emerging Technologies – 3 years

- Given my background it was an easy transition into writing about Fintech related issues. Mainly for online publications in the UK and US and my own research and forthcoming book.

- This has developed to focus on more ‘niche’ areas concerned with Finance, AML, Law Enforcement and Security and emerging technologies including Articificial and Quantum Intelligence related matters.

I was born in the UK and have both British and Polish heritage. I enjoy travelling and creative writing and now spend most of my free time enjoying both of those things.

DETAILED PROFILE -

I have extensive experience as an FCA approved compliance officer over 25 years, culminating in establishing my own brokerage and now working on special projects in the Fintech and Security arena, covering various regions such as the UK, US, Russian and China. During that time, I have written for several well-known publications. My early career was spent working in highly reputable banks and investment houses as an analyst, focussing on global asset allocation and latterly in the Emerging Markets. This is where I "cut my teeth" in terms of putting thoughts on paper and disseminating them to a wider audience of readers, traders and chief investment officers. It required a comprehensive understanding of global economic markets, strong analytical skills, and an ability to communicate effectively across borders.

I subsequently moved into the private client ‘retail’ market and developed an extremely thorough understanding of regulatory systems in the UK, carrying out a wide array of Compliance functions. As an FCA approved person, I then added my Investment Management qualifications to those I had already attained to carry out my compliance and oversight roles. During that time, I became the UK's first Introducing Broker for retail customers in the CFD and derivatives markets to the major clearing firms. A model which still dominates volumes in the UK and European markets.

I then established my own brokerage and built a successful business which included several brokers dealing with high net worth clients in the UK, US and Europe. This allowed me to move into other areas of interest, notably the Fintech arena, which I have now been writing about for various online publications over the last five years. As a consultant for a major Bank with operations all over the world, I have been charged with the task of sourcing and developing new projects which specialize in the blockchain and AI markets. This is not purely focussed on Financial Technology. My areas of expertise have consisted mainly of analysing security systems, both from a technological and organizational perspective, and more recently, the economic and geo-political effects in certain parts of the world. My background in the Eastern European markets both personally and professionally has enabled me to achieve a greater level of penetration and understanding of the various important, and influential, cultural differences. This has in turn been instrumental in obtaining more detailed, well researched and 'rounded' stories.

I have some basic, conversational language skills in certain dialects of Russian, Ukraine and a proficient ability to communicate effectively in Polish. I am also currently learning simplified Mandarin, which I plan to use when I cover that region shortly. There is still somewhat of a conflict between the developments in Exponential Technological growth, which are inherently global, and the political and economic factors in each country, which has the opposite effect of serving to keep those borders alive. Finding an efficient balance between the two is a subject I find particularly interesting.

I have also gained experience working in both public and private organisations and have a body of work consisting of several hundred published articles on the subject of Exponential Digitization and technological change. This work has focussed primarily on identifying weaknesses in the regulatory systems we currently use, as well as working with think thanks on plans for the future. Inevitably this has also included substantial work in AI, IOT and 5G technologies.

In terms of my education. I was educated in the UK and in my mid-teens attended a well-known UK college, then after a year spent working in the US (New York), I obtained a BA honours degree in Economics, specialising in Soviet Studies, Occupational Psychology and Econometrics, for which I obtained a first class grade.

On leaving University I was then selected to work on a graduate development programme for one of the UK's largest merchant banks in London. Only 30 places were awarded from a group of 3000 applicants, of which I was one.
