Working as a Senior Developer in the Platform Engineering department building. We had two key deliverables, firstly a set of Mircoservices that provided common capabilities across their technology estate. These included high traffic services such as Visitor tracking, BI event capture, Multi Variant Testing tool and an insurance reference data api all of which were written in Node.js. The second deliverable was building an Heroku like PaaS to accelerate and simplify deployments across the organisation. This was involved provisioning a bare-metal Kubernetes cluster on AWS with terraform and puppet. This gave be huge insight into how Kubernetes worked at the time and a great place to learn and apply Dev Ops approaches.

Delivered three business critical greenfield projects for Compare the Market as a tech lead. Firstly, Meerkat Movies (a new reward scheme for compare the market) using lightweight technologies such as Node.js, Docker and AWS to deliver a fast, scalable and rock solid set of Microservices to enable uses to claim and redeem codes to 2 for 1 deals on cinema tickets in a three-month time scale.
With the underlying services and websites complete we looked to take over the Meerkat Movies mobile apps that were built by a third party. Due to code quality issues we decided to rewrite both the Android and iOS apps with a hybrid approach using the ionic framework, that brings together Angular and Cordova. This was rolled out to our user base of over 1 million people in September.
I then lead the technology side of project Martha which was our flagship marketing campaign of 2016 that saw us sponsoring Batman Vs Superman and releasing our Heroic Meerkat Toys. This required a complete re-platforming of the toy claim process into a unified customer journey that enabled customers to claim both Meerkat Movies and toys in the same way. This again leveraged technologies such as Docker, Node.js, AWS and terraform.
