Being a self employed sole trader I survey potential projects both off paper drawings and on site prior to tendering. Communication and negotiation with clients are key elements to ensuring a solid and workable foundation is set before any project can get off the ground, so detailed analysis of programming and organisation of logistics is imperative. I know from experience in many aspects of life that there is a lot of truth in the old adage 'fail to prepare, prepare to fail'.
Depending on the size of the project, I may be able to complete the installation alone or with one other but I have had up to twelve men working for me on projects such as the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London. In these instances its vital that individuals or teams are clear as to the works they are carrying out as I would invariably be working in other areas for much of the time. Again clear communication with clients and their management teams is of utmost importance.

During nine and a half years in the forces many roles were fulfilled. I completed five operational tours in my time, three in Northern Ireland and two more in the former Yugoslavia, in Bosnia. These periods were some of the very best times of my life, being involved in real time live action where every man is expected and relied upon to execute not only individual skills but to follow quick-fire instructions in order to work as part of an effective team. In my latter years I worked in reconnaissance in a four man team within the 16 air assault brigade and was a section commander in a mechanised infantry battalion in Bosnia under the umbrella of 7th armoured brigade (desert rats).
