I'm offering
I am a skilled, predominantly Microsoft, IT professional. I specialise in Automation of all kinds, whether that be PowerShell (in all its flavours: Scripting, Module design, DSC etc) or Cloud based Serverless Apps e.g. Azure Logic Apps/Azure Functions. In the last year or so, I have been living the Agile/Devops mindset and working with customers to implement this methodology and improve delivery of their services.
I've worked within the UK government implementing Azure Pipelines, Azure Resource governance and automation for citizen focused applications. The application here is a predominately PaaS based solutions with elements running on AKS. Azure services used included App Service, Functions, KeyVault, SignalR, Redis Cache, Service Bus among many others.
I also worked with schools to help implement Office 365 and greatly improve processes and efficiency. Applications such as Teams, Forms, Planner, Bookings, Power BI and Office 365/AzureAD are all tools used by students and faculty that make daily school life much easier.
My background is strongly routed in traditional systems administration. I've held certifications from Cisco, VMware and Microsoft for things varying from networking with routers and switches through virtualisation, Windows Core IT infrastructure and IP telephony.
I hope whatever projects you have, I can be of great use to you.

DevOps Engineer
HMCTS.
Here I was working as part of the team delivering Video Hearings, a solution focused on allowing
court hearings to be had via video from citizens' homes. I worked on providing design and support
of the Azure DevOps infrastructure, including writing pipelines in yaml, managing existing release
pipelines and integrating all the facets of test plans and artifacts. Since HMCTS works with an Open
Source mentality, all code both app and IaC is available in GitHub and as such, I was responsible
for managing the branch policies for these repos. The Azure related consultation revolved around
the improvement of App Services and migration to AKS including writing helm charts and
containerising dotnet applications. Supporting services included Key Vault, Managed Identity,
Azure B2C, App Configuration, vNets, Storage Accounts and many others. The deployment tools
used were a mixture of mostly Terraform and some ARM. In terms of team organisation, I was the
only DevOps engineer in this team and as a result was responsible for
all decisions made around either Azure DevOps or Azure deployments; of course keeping to the
approved principles of working laid out by the organisation.

Video Hearings
HMCTS.
Video Hearings is a UK Government project to allow court hearings to be held digitally. All the
participants attend by video and are able to get results much faster, not needing to be burden by
traveling or physically present. My role involved designing and implementing Azure Pipelines and
Artifact feeds to deploy the Apps and infrastructure required to run Virtual Hearings. Additionally,
the design and deployment of the Azure Infrastructure using Terraform was crucial to ensuring
consistency of the many environments used for development, testing and production. Key Azure
components used include App Service, AKS, B2C, SQL Server & WAF

job
Azure Automation Engineer
itnetX (Switzerland) AG.
I was brought in to drive automation from solely process based to IaC, AI application design, aid in
the Digital Intelligence transformation.
Generally worked a consultant, working with customers to identify areas that required
automation and developed scripts, modules, APIs etc to drive efficiency and depending on the
customer, trained the teams in Azure DevOps and DevOps prinicpals.
The automation team double during my time as more projects were cultivated at the customers.
Once such project was a massive multi region datacenter in Switzerland. For that project I wrote a
lot of custom DSC resources, a custom PoshUD portal for the entire provisioning and a lot of
serverless APIs. The whole project was managed in AzureDevops and I was key in configuring and
managing all the repos, build pipelines and the general health of Az DevOps.
Cloud Comliance
I was required to use my whole knowledge set during my time, not solely “PowerShell automater ”.
Tools therefore were varied. Development is done in vscode, languages/tools used for IaC were
PowerShell, Terraform, ARM, DSC. The large proportions of the Azure stack of products were used.
I left this position because I was bringing my family back to the UK and started contracting
focusing on cloud architecture, automation and other AI cloud technologies.

Automated deployment of large multi sites datacenters
itnetX (Switzerland) AG.
With the goal "Automate everything", this project was the most complex and rewarding I have
participated in. Many custom dsc resources were required to configure all aspects of the datacenter:
switches, hosts, storage, ad, pki, patch mgmt etc. I learnt many things during this project: agile and
devops practices, an understanding of the need for testing; both unit and integration. Seeing ci/cd
pipelines in production that really make infrastructure as code a possibility is something I can be
proud to say I implemented.

project
Automate Microsoft UC deployments
Swisscom AG.
With powershell dsc as the engine behind the installations and compliance, dozens of custom
resources were written by me as well as editing of Microsoft experimental resources. I wrote a mvc
web app to take excel based orders, parse them and deploy entire customer environments using
sccm, scorch, dsc pull servers among others tools. Being initially a poc, the entire chain from the
asp.Net frontend to the dsc resources were written by me so that the end result was, swisscom
having a one touch automation solution whereby storage, networking, vmware, windows inc. AD,
SQL and applications ex. Skype, exchange and Sharepoint were deployed.

Automation Engineer
Swisscom AG.
I originally started as a Unified communications engineer as was brought in because of my
unique skills (at that point) or being skilled in PowerShell and Microsoft United Comms. I quickly
transitioned in to doing automation for the entire managed customer environment. This entailed
customer onboarding with sales, vm deployment in vmware, Windows deployment, AD, Sharepoint,
Exchange, Lync, SQL etc.
In the end the reason I moved was because specific parts of the process didn’t want to be automated
and I was receiving push back from the more “traditional teams”. Moving to itnetX was a move to
bigger, better and more modern things
