Owner
Rhi-Rhi's Photography.
Following achieving my Diploma I set up my own photography business, initially I promoted and marketed this by flyers and face-to-face meetings, then I developed my own website which has been much more successful (add your website address here). To date my clients have been families (weddings, christenings, mothers and babies, anniversary mementos), teenagers wanting to build personal modelling portfolios, charity events, University of Lincoln graduations and was commission by Prestige Events for their booking for the 5/10 Run at Newark.
To buy the equipment I needed for this venture I borrowed £500 from my grandad with the promise to pay him back in a year - he got all of his money back and his favourite cake as interest within five months.
The skills I have learnt and developed starting and remodelling my business include:
• Management of time, budgets and personnel to ensure the business is proactive
and profitable.
• Interpersonal enabling me to interact and negotiate with a wide and varied range of clients.
• IT website design and networking.
University of Lincoln, 08:03:18 - present, Patient Representative.
This role is undertaken several times a year on Select Days, when candidates wanting to study within the School of Health and Social Care are interviewed for the different programmes. Being a Patient Representative (eligibility: anyone who has accessed NHS care) on the interview panel involves awareness of professional attitudes and behaviours, ones' own unconscious bias, supporting shy/nervous candidates, promoting the patients' rights, negotiated decision-making with senior lecturers on suitability of candidate.
Additionally, I have supported lecturers in class during Health Promotion lessons offering a younger person's perspective on the 'dryness' of traditional health education and offering 'innovative' strategies which may engage younger people. An example of this discussed in class was the Stop Smoking (or you will die later) Campaign, but by explaining many young people live in the 'here and now' so 'die later' is not a deterrent, we were able to get a lively discussion on youth health education.
The skills I developed undertaking Patient Representative role include:
• Researching the programme, the candidates were applying for so I was knowledgeable about some aspect and felt able to refer on to the lecturers if not.
• Communicating without feeling too intimated, with senior staff (lecturers) and standing up in front of groups of students, to get my point across.
• Not always providing my own 'right' answers so people have the opportunity to discuss and debate different options.

job
Sales Advisor
Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
I undertook this work experience when I was at school and it offer me a different perspective in what Health and Safety meant on a day-to-day basis, from a store room fire door jammed open to a partially sighted man tripping over a cardboard box. The Manager explained that customer service was important but keeping the general public and staff safe was also essential. Interacting with mainly older people was also a new experience for me and I found that by the end of the week facing people so they could see my mouth, speaking slowly and giving the person plenty of time to answer resulted in better and more inclusive conversations.
• Many of these skills learnt in my work experience have helped me in my future awareness of legalisation and interactions with others.
