Scope/Description: Complex reinforced concrete structure designed to meet very exacting requirements, codes and standards.
Responsibilities: Engineering Manager responsible for the delivery of a large number of design deliverables and the Design Substantiation for the Structural, Civil, and Architectural elements that underpin the Nuclear Safety Case. This included more conventional elements of design such as cladding, architectural fit-out and external works.

I also spent two years working on Terminal 5 as a Package Manager reporting to the Project Leader for the Fit-Out Design and Procurement sub-project managing the glazed screen supplier through acquisition, design, manufacture and into assembly.
Responsibilities: I was responsible for managing all aspects of the detailed design to a programme and budget for projects in Terminal including the drive through check and the main check in extension for Virgin Airlines. I also provided design management for the new build Pier 6 project to support the introduction of the A380 Airbus.
On Terminal 5 I was responsible for managing all aspects of the glazing package including cost and programme, but principally design management and the delivery of 1200 production drawings for the main building T5A and satellite, T5B.This included obtaining the necessary approvals for all drawings, prototypes and samples from Richard Rodgers and Partners, the architect.

I transferred the skills I acquired using survey instruments to a site based role as Site Engineer and soon progressed to Senior Engineer working on a number of large commercial developments in London and the SE.
I moved into Construction Management, progressing to Senior Construction Manager, until 2001 when once more I became interested in the design aspects of projects.
