2003 - 2016
job
Developer/System administrator
VELUX Company Limited, Woodside Way.
I was initially employed for 3 months primarily as Senior developer as well as Server (v8.5 and v9) administrative duties. After an initial extension of 3 months, I became a full time employee and was with VELUX for almost 13 years.
Although involved in a number of developments, the main focus was to create sophisticated solution for the VELUX Contact Centre in Glenrothes. With the Lotus Notes client being used as a front end, I created links to a number of legacy systems (including SAP and SQL) and also incorporated postcode checking using Quick address API's.
HTML and XML have also been used for reporting functions.
Two of my main developments were an Operations Resourcing System and also a Customer 1st (lean practice) Control System. Both of these systems used a Lotus Notes back end system each with a small Visual Basic application which kept on top of all other applications for easy access. These were used on the client to send information via HTTP calls to the Lotus Domino server. The Customer 1st application was used for recording data to assist with 'lean' processes. The Resourcing application tracked details of the staff within the Contact Centre by controlling (only allowing a pre-determined number of people away at one time) and recording all breaks and other busy times away from the desk to ensure the correct resourcing of up to 60 staff members. It also provided a web based application which displayed real time information on large screens in the Call centre with the availability of each staff member.
I also created knowledge base systems which consolidated all of the information required by the call centre Operatives to assist staff when dealing with customers
Latterly, I was developing applications in Sharepoint which VELUX was migrating to from Lotus Notes.

October 1996 - October 2000 (Company Dissolved)
Mamaging Director and Senior Notes Developer/Administrator for my own Lotus Business Partner company specialising in Lotus Messaging/Groupware systems and database development.
On a day to basis, I was in charge of a small development team providing Enterprise solutions mainly to Scottish Hydro-Electric (SHE) for whom we were preferred suppliers of Lotus Notes developments. During this time, I was personally responsible for the development of at least 50 applications for SHE which included:-
Workflow/approval databases
Intranet/internet access employing Javascript, HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
Applications integrating with Oracle, MS Access and MS SQL Server databases using ODBC, LEI and DECS.
Implementation of databases accessing external data objects (e.g. Lotus 123 and Excel spreadsheets) using OLE as well as Visual Basic applications accessing Lotus Notes Objects.
Applications using the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF) using calls to external DLLs.
A PC Auditing application which made extensive use of the Windows API to retrieve system and application information from a user's PC.
During the same period, MACS was also responsible for the implementation and support of the Lotus Notes Infrastructure for Scottish Hydro-Electric. The infrastructure consisted of both 4.5 and 4.6 domino servers for which I, along with other team members, provided all levels of System Administration and support (1st - 3rd line).
In addition to the Lotus Notes development, I have also written a number of applications for the Electricity sector using Visual Basic 5.0 specifically for the deregulation programme in 1998.

job
Consolidation of Postmasters Accounts, Planning Manager
Royal Mail.
1976 - 1989
Initially working as a counter clerk then progressing into administration in the SW London District Office. I worked in a variety of positions including:- Quality Assurance (Identifying areas of improvement and actioning solutions), Consolidation of Postmasters Accounts, Planning Manager.
The Post Office was where I found that I had an aptitude for computing as I was using one of only 3 computers in the whole of the SW London area. Having limited opportunity at the time to progress further in The Post Office with this new technology , I decided to pursue a new career by leaving the Post Office to attend a computer hardware training course.
