Technical/Team Lead
Arnold Clark Automobiles.
I joined Arnold Clark in June 2017 as the Technical Team Leader with the Aftersales team. Aftersales is responsible for the software used to book and progress over a million service bookings each year throughout the Arnold Clark Group.
During my time with the team we worked extensively to remove some of the technical debt in the existing platforms to make them more stable, secure and scalable to allow the core software to cope with the growth of the business. Alongside stabilising the existing platforms we carved off a number of microservices which will slowly being to phase out the legacy platform.
My work was primarily focused on ASP.NET WebForms and MVC and ASP.NET Core Web API’s for our new Microservice estate. Where appropriate we have introduced Event Sourcing to our microservices and I have extensive experience of implementing an EventStore based solution. All of our applications are backed by either SQL Server, Raven DB or EventStore.

Head of Enterprise Solutions
Pulsion Technology Ltd..
I joined Pulsion Technology in May 2011 as a Senior Software Engineer initially working on a mobile data capture product consisting of an ASP.NET website and a mobile application targeted at Windows Mobile 6.5. My role involved both development and client facing work including consulting with clients on how best to implement the solution to maximise value in the context of their business. As an engineer at Pulsion I also worked on .NET web projects for various clients in the public and private sectors including financial services organisations.
I was promoted to the post of Principal Consultant and worked as a consultant within for the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement performing project management and business analyst roles. While at NHSI I ran workshops with clinical and administrative staff to capture requirements for tools intended to introduce innovation within the NHS.
As part of my consultant role I lead a team who tendered for a contract to implement a new website for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). On winning the bid I designed the solution at a technical level and lead the team who delivered the new project..
Since September 2013 I have been Head of Enterprise solutions at Pulsion. During this time my duties have been extremely varied and heavily client facing. I have worked with a number of clients including the NCH Corporation, the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water and the American Forrest Foundation whose annual leadership conference I presented at. I am involved in solutions architecture and technical oversight of all of the projects which are undertaken in addition to pre-sales activity. I have experience of responding to tenders, RFI’s and RFP’s in both the public, private and third sectors from both a business and technical perspective. I was involved in helping to establish and launch Pulsion’s US office in Irving, Texas and am involved in recruitment and mentoring for the UK business. I have travelled extensively throughout the US and Europe as part of my client facing role.
In early 2014 I was involved in an internal process for the selection of a development partner based in Eastern Europe to allow Pulsion to easily scale teams for large projects. As part of that process I visited multiple partners and undertook a technical evaluation looking at their development methods, technologies & culture to ensure both a good technical and personal fit. I have since worked extensively with our selected partner, Future Processing (FP), to implement solutions with cross company, Pulsion & FP, SCRUM teams.
Recently I have been involved in introducing SCRUM and Kanban working into Pulsion and have lead the migration from our legacy SVN source control and build servers onto new DevOps tools including Visual Studio Team Service, HockeyApp and Git for version control. New processed were introduced as part of that project allowing us to move from check-in to deployment in Windows Azure with no manual intervention for the first time. I have extensive experience in Windows Azure deployments using the Azure PaaS offering for web apps and SQL Server. I am actively involved in looking at new technologies and have experience on evaluating ASP.NET Core and Xamarin.
During my time as Head of Enterprise Solutions my single biggest achievement was the global rollout of Pulsion’s mobile working platform to the NCH Corporation. NCH were looking to modernise their field working process, moving from capturing field service information on paper to a digital solution running on Apple iOS and Windows Surface devices. Starting in May 2013 Pulsion were engaged by the NCH Corporation to provide a proof of concept solution based on our cross platform mobile working solution to prove we could meet their core requirements. I was heavily involved in implementing the proof of concept and presented our solution to a global NCH audience including their US based CIO and several IT directors.
Pulsion were subsequently awarded the contract to implement the solution globally and I lead a cross disciplined team of developers, testers, project managers and business analysts to undertake an extensive programme of customisation to the core software. I acted as the solutions architect on the project with oversight of the overall roadmap and implementation decisions. Our solution was part of a much wider initiative which included the rollout of an Oracle ERP solution. We worked in close partnership with NCH’s in house development teams to implement and integration between the ERP system and our mobile platform using micro services.
Working to tight and demanding deadlines our team delivered on time for each go-live. Currently the solution is live in 22 European countries, the US and Canada and two countries in the Asia Pacific region with another 8 Asian countries scheduled to go live before the end of 2016. The project has involved frequent travel to NCH’s global HQ in Irving, Texas for planning and review meetings with senior staff and I have been involved in organising commercial and contractual arrangements.
