Rolls-Royce Career Summary
Mechanical Rigs Design Specialist Dec14 to Present
As the SME on Large Spinning Tests, and Structural Testing I am called upon to give advice on technical
issues within Rolls-Royce.
I am responsible for the total design authority for a large range of Mechanical Rig Tests. In this role I am the mechanical engineering technical consultant, mentoring and auditing suppliers throughout the design

2010 - 2014
job
Structural and Large Spinning Technical Programme Manager
unknown.
Solely responsible for delivering a number of large high profile tests. One such a test was the XWB Fan
Blade Off Test. This was the second Rig Fan Blade off Test for the XWB engine project, and was required
due to a change in the Fan Blade design.
I had previously taken over the programme management of the first XWB rig Fan Blade Off test shortly before testing was due to start. When this was passed to me, the programme was not in a healthy
situation. This was the first test on the brand new test facility in Germany. There were a number of major
outstanding issues both technical and programme related, and although challenging, I managed these
issues delivering a successful test meeting the planned date.

2009 - 2010
job
Production Leader-Rigs Operations
unknown.
This role entailed managing a team of 30 Fitter/Testers. As well as day to day management activities I was
also tasked with developing the individuals to be members of what at the time was called "High Performing Self Directed Teams". This was basically encouraging each small team to be responsible for delivering the build and test once the parts had been delivered to the shop floor. The teams achieved this by
• Running their own daily whiteboard
• Reporting on the days progress highlighting any issues
• Setting the targets for the forthcoming week
• Discussing the weekly achievement
• Arranging any support services as required e.g. millwrights, electricians etc.
• Reporting building issues to site services as required and managing their progress
This was a complete change to how the Fitter/Testers had traditionally operated but proved very
successful.

Role was as the sole mechanical designer in an electrical design department. Although the majority of my
work was mechanical design, I did become involved in electrical design depending on work load. This gave
me an appreciation of Electrical/Electronic design and this was consolidated by my successful completion of a HNC in Electrical Engineering while working in the department.
