Software Developer
Hewlett Packard.
I have worked on a large scale, safety-aware application within the UK Defence and Aerospace sectors using Agile development methodologies.
As part of my development responsibilities I have gained insight and experience into all aspects of the software development life-cycle, including requirements analysis, software design with UML models, unit and integration testing, packaging software for distribution as RPMs, as well as maintenance and debugging of legacy software. A key aspect of my role has been implementing an extensive automated GUI regression and integration testing suite using SikuliX and Jython.

job
Support Scientist
Diamond Light Source Ltd..
During my role I was involved in the design, procurement and implementation of highly technical, state-of-the-art scientific instruments at a world-class research facility that operates 24/7. Duties involved liaising with suppliers, users and other staff members to provide both cutting-edge data acquisition and analysis in the area of catalysis and surface/atmospheric chemistry. As part of this role, I also promoted the project at external conferences, mentored an undergraduate student placement with their software summer project and helped develop, build, test and integrate the control systems used for the scientific equipment.

job
PhD Researcher
University of Reading.
During my PhD I worked on fundamental research in experimental and computational physics in the fields spintronics, nano-materials and semiconductor-metal interfaces. The research involved conducting cuttingedge experiments at leading scientific facilities, including the Advanced Light Source in the US and Diamond Light Source in the UK.
As part of my research, I had to setup extremely customised apparatus and scientific instrumentation, where I used a number of technologies including NI LabVIEW, VB6 and C for maintaining and extending software communicating with different data acquisition devices. Further to this, I employed Python, Java, ImageJ and OriginLab for bespoke data visualisation and analysis.
Day to day duties and responsibilities also involved writing Python and bash scripts as part of administration, support and processing of large data sets on a SUSE Linux MOSIX cluster. I also used this computer cluster for firstprincipals simulations as well as theoretical modelling, extending programs written in C and Fortran.
I am an excellent communicator, which was evidenced by the fact that I presented at a number of high profile conferences within my area of expertise, conveying highly technical information to audiances of all levels which helped to promote my research group's activities at both a national and international stage.
