My experience
2007 - 2019
job
Senior Video Editor
KOTV Ltd.
• Whilst in this role I had to constantly re-evaluate the equipment, and work flows to achieve efficiency and productiveness, regarding the ever changing video post production world. I was able to achieve this by understanding every step of the process from footage coming in, editing with/without script, to delivery.
• My major achievement within the company, was when they moved office from Southampton to Fareham in 2015, with new equipment and moving towards HD footage coming in and out, new work flows were a must. Constantly updating work flows resulted in better time management across the team and we were able to take on another client (Broken Arrow Media).
• Whilst in Southampton we were using Final Cut Pro 7; through looking at pros and cons of other possible software, and bearing in mind the companies budget, I went with Premiere Pro. I taught myself Premiere Pro and After Effects, and then ensured the other two editors in my team were able to transition with little to no issues.
• In addition, I have trained a total of six assistant/junior editors up to the role of editor, and seen them move on.
• When I joined in 2007, the work input/output was predominately in SD 4:3 and delivering via Digi Beta tapes. I had the responsibility of liaising with a third party and working out the benefits/costs/practicality of us upgrading to HD - whilst still using SD 4:3 archive footage. The result was investing in a Black Magic Teranex machine, which upscaled all the SD 4:3 footage to HD 14:9 in real time, without impacting the day to day work flows.
• Through my achievements and striving to improve work flows, the company grew to HD and digital delivery. I'm proud to have set up the companies OTT channel (Kotvboxing.tv). I had the responsibility to aid the MD in which shows to showcase, which layout best suited the content, and finally how to drive an audience to it using social media to help boost the companies profile and viewership.
• Other responsibilities included; Media management and archiving (saving space and footage in cost effective ways).
• I worked on three different shows for clients, whilst working closely with my on site producer, to a weekly deadline, 52 weeks of the year.
• These shows vary from 24mins to 48mins (long form) and are delivered to a Broadcast standard via cloud uploading.
• I have worked on four minute features (short form) with and without the producer for our various magazine shows. As well as producing/editing a package of eight shows (all 24mins in length).
Worked with various clients whilst at this role:
◦ KOTV Ltd - flag ship magazine shows produced on a weekly basis
◦ Crookhorn College - Corporate video
◦ Disney/Co-Op group - Podcast (High School Musical 2 Live on Stage)
◦ Boxing News - TV advert
◦ Broken Arrow Media - Weekly magazine show
◦ Channel 4 - Volleyball Shows
◦ Southampton FC - End of year DVDs
◦ NationwideRepairs - Highlight reel (Tim Harvey)
◦ Manchester TV - Ricky Hatton Documentary
