My experience
2018 - 2018
freelance
Freelance / Temporary work
McDermott Drylining and P B Edwards Ltd.
As with my previous time with McDermott's I am responsible for the control of projects from initial enquiry to completion with total responsibility for all Surveying, Estimating and Financial aspects / success & with a major input into the Management and Technical aspects of these projects.
McDermott's are Sunninghill based specialist Dry Lining / Fit Out contracting company specialising in fast track works mainly from around £100K to £2m.
My responsibilities also included securing new business, creating/building relationships with clients, New and Existing, and building a new and more profitable work environment. In this I have been successful.
Since joining this company we have secured works of a profitable nature from a variety of new clients whilst maintaining our status with existing clients. At the point of my leaving they were actively working on approximately £1.5m in contract values from a start point of £0.00 just 5 months prior.
With P B Edwards: -Similar to McDermott's but with little estimating but with involvement in managing and resolving design issues on new contract with poor design. The model here was for a higher turnover with tight margins due to the established client base and a reluctance to expand from housing to include Commercial etc.

Commercial Manager
Prater.
Working as a Commercial Manager I have run three overlapping projects covering Façade Cladding and Roofing with SFS, Composite Cladding, Curtain Walling and Rainscreen Cladding including a wrap up of Airport Works £3m, Hospital £4.5m and Shopping Centre £9.5m.
Whilst the location of the office (about 1 hour from home) is perfectly acceptable extensive travel to projects as far away as Liverpool has become a real issue with the extent of time lost through simply driving. In addition, poor investment in on site IT makes work difficult to manage.
The Liverpool project was scheduled to be £3.5m with a margin of £800K and I achieved a final value of £4.5m with a margin of £1.35m and no overspend on Subcontract Labour.
