In this position I had overall responsibility for reporting infrastructure and all the processes that go into maintaining an efficient reporting environment.
As we were unable to make any changes to the core IP system other than adding custom objects on a separate schema, I created an operational data store by restoring the latest backup of the Live database on to a separate server. I then created indexes and statistics where necessary to speed up data retrieval and pointed all reporting that doesn't require up to the minute information to stored procedures on the operational data store. An Sql agent job restores the backup nightly and a series of other jobs create the indexes and attendant statistics. In addition to speeding up data retrieval, this has the advantage of taking a lot of strain off the core system.
I built a separate data warehouse from scratch with all the attendant mechanisms for data storage, refresh and efficient retrieval. As a result, the firm has access to a suite of Work in Progress (WIP) reports that are refreshed hourly and run in seconds.
Over hauled Fee Earner Performance Monitoring and created an entire universe that not only produces reports but disseminates information to Fee Earners and other interested parties in a timely fashion.
Fully automated both KPI and WIP reporting using the aforementioned data warehouse along with several other processes
I have worked in conjunction with the management accountant to develop processes for accurate financial reporting.

I devised and implemented a system to allow the IT department of a large Fund Manager to create and update permissions on their AutoRek installation. I had to create a series of stored procedures to gather existing permissions into a matrix and use Reporting Services to export the results to an Excel spreadsheet. This spreadsheet could then be updated and imported back into the system using an SSIS package that also ran a series of stored procedures to make the necessary system changes. All of this was plumbed into the front end of AutoRek so all the user saw was the interface.
I was involved in the customisation of the AutoRek Installation at the headquarters of a high street bank. I had to create SSIS packages for data loads, SSRS reports and update cubes on the Analysis Services Instance. I also created an automated deployment package to implement all these changes.
