job
Scrum Master and Agile Project Manager
MSX International.
Tools used regularly include JIRA, Teams, Clarizen, SharePoint, Remedy, MediaWiki, Visio and MS Project.
Joined in midst of significant organizational change, impacting informal processes and communication lines that needed to be addressed and long-running projects reassessed:
• As Scrum master (SM), for the first MSX development team to fully adopt Scrum. Delivered a mobile version of a legacy application, built on API end points and delivered as Android / iOS / progressive web app (PWA) using Ionic 3. Delivery included mobile device management (AirWatch) and sales and marketing and support resources;
• As SM, coaching and supporting the Scrum team throughout the process, using retrospectives to identify improvements and ensuring they are achieved in subsequent sprints. Coaching provided primarily through 1-2-1 or team sessions. Support included ensuring daily blockers are addressed, offering guidance, advice or even just a cup of coffee;
• As SM, coaching the Scrum team to produce high quality stories (requirements), elaborated to become sprint candidates then refining them (making them sprint-ready), creating spikes as required to explore options and avoid the guesswork;
• As SM working closely with product owner to identify sprint improvements, incl. scheduling of ceremonies and releases. Managing product roadmaps comprising epics (groups of stories) and serving as proxy product owner as required;
• As Agile project manager (APM), working alongside existing team leads in data warehouse and legacy application teams through coaching and by example: serving as business analyst to confirm clear, unambiguous requirements, introducing 'living' status documents to confirm progress and serve as both customer signoff and support handover;
• As APM, communicating to project stakeholders through weekly dashboards, schedules, road maps etc. Compiling evidence-based reviews of 'inherited' projects, for management to make tough but informed decisions to cancel;
• As APM, working to clear down and simplify existing JIRA Kanban boards that were over-complex and too busy, improving communications both within teams and across them, particularly with support through improved handovers and process improvement, leading to improved relationships and more effective collaboration.

job
Project Manager, Product Owner, Scrum Master and Agile Delivery Manager
Green Duck Limited.
IT support and software solutions including work metric and productivity tools, staff resource planning and wage management, eCommerce, CMS based websites (incl. SEO) and mobile audit systems
Tools used regularly: JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Balsamiq, AutoTask, Connectwise, Visio, Wrike, MS Project.
Initial remit of project manager rapidly broadened. Capable software and infrastructure teams with great potential lacked process, structure and rigor. Projects were unfocussed and directionless with poor reporting. Actions included:
• Implementation of Agile practices including Scrum, initially supported by simple Kanban board (post-its and a wall) before moving the team to JIRA - an industry standard issue tracking product;
• Improvement of team communication with huddles, scrums, planning meetings and retrospectives. Mentoring staff and customers (product owners) on project management principles and Agile technologies;
• Creation of products such as PIDs (incl. communication, configuration, quality plans) roadmaps, Gantt charts, migration and transition plans, risk registers, product descriptions, checklists etc. taking elements of PRINCE2 and Scrum as appropriate. Also budget plans and resource tracking, SLAs and ITIL-based standard operational procedures (SOPs);
• True collaboration, with clients working alongside our teams during analysis and development. Contributed to: business and process modelling (use cases, user stories), user needs (role playing, personas) prioritizing and verifying requirements, UI wireframe design, sprint and test planning, testing and signoff;
• Applying PM discipline and agile techniques to software development, infrastructure projects and service delivery. Introduced dashboard and Kanban-driven daily meetings, a service catalogue to improve consistency and accountability, risk management, RAG reporting, RASCI (RACI) and backlogs as well as both change and configuration management;
• Direct point of contact for client business sponsors to ensure solutions meet business needs - from functional & non-functional requirements though to clear, accessible proposals, statement of works (SOW) and specifications, ensuring that complex technical concepts are presented clearly and simply to those expected to pay for them!
