JP Kenny, Staines, UK
Consultant
Leading a highly challenging design analyses for Diverless Spools and FTAs. These are required to be integrated in a subsea production system with 785 bar No Burst Pressure and resist high seismic loading all which have to be installable with very restrictive Caspian Sea installation and transportation vessel capability. Working in pipeline design team, responsible for rigid spool design, suction pile design, supervision of pipe-soil interaction tests conducted by NGI and University of Western Australia.
Directly dealing with the client and working with them and involved in PMC.
BP Caspian Sea Shah Deniz Stage 2 Development
• Design and analyses of cluster rigid spools based on ASME VIII (strain based) and ASME B31.8 and seismic analyses of spool systems
• Structural and geotechnical design of suction pile, anchor connector and chain stopper
• Fatigue and ECA analysis pipelines
• Assessment of spools against FIV and VIV
• Supervised pipe-soil interaction tests
• Reviewing on-bottom span for the infield pipelines
• Seismic analyses of flow lines, cluster spools, foundations and suction piles
• Structural and geotechnical design of mud mats.
Subsea 7, Sutton, UK
Principal Engineer
Employed in the Pipeline Engineering Group, responsible for Finite Element, structural integrity, heat transfer, design analyses of subsea pipelines including pipe-in-pipe flowline systems and geotechnical design. Design according to DnV and API code of offshore pipelines and spools. Dealing with contactors and clients on weekly basis.
Vessel 7XL
Designing Subsea7's new state-of-the-art reel-lay / J-lay pipelay and construction vessel for ultra-deepwater field developments. FE and analytical models developed to find the optimum distance of the reel to spooling-on tensioner in both horizontal and vertical directions and the optimised distance of the aligner wheel to reel during spooling-off (aligning) process in both horizontal and vertical directions. A parametric Finite Element model of the vessel incorporating all components involved during the spooling-on and spooling-off (aligning) process was produced.
Petrobras P55 and P56
• Setting up the most detailed FE model of the whole line. Carried out numerous pipeline on-bottom roughness, lateral buckling and walking simulations for the oil and gas pipelines incorporating sleepers to introduce controlled lateral buckling. The combined lateral buckling and walking characteristics of the line were predicted.
• Performed suction pipe geotechnical and structural design and structural analyses in order to evaluate the suction anchor lifting and tilting operation to ensure a safe operation and evaluate the position of lifting points.
• Developed a model using ABAQUS to design top loaded suction pile and compared the results with AGPANC with excellent results. Deployment of these piles allows Subsea7 to save substantial vessel time, since no pre-tensioning is required, and ROV connection of chain is easier because it is always outside the soil.
Petrobras Pre-Salt Feed
• Simulation of subsequent cyclic fatigue loading tests by using the FE model to calculate the stable cyclic stress ranges within the liner corresponding to the applied load cycles. Comparison of FE predicted fatigue damage in liner based on SN approach with post-test investigations of liner integrity.
