Shawbrook Bank is a privately-owned challenger bank. Since its inception, the bank progressed from a PE ownership to being
listed, for 2 years, on the London Stock Exchange (LSE FTSE 250 company) until mid-2017 when it was bought by a PE
consortium - Pollen Street Capital and BC Partners.
In my position as Strategy Director and Chief of Staff to the CEO, I had a broad canvas of responsibilities:
● Managing group strategy (organic and inorganic) across the three businesses - Consumer, Property and Business finance
● Areas of focus - products, pricing, geographic, IT, operations, and digital transformation strategy
● Conducting market trend analysis to identify growth, new products, geographies, business and strategic
partnership opportunities at the group level
● Overlook implementation of key strategic projects and ensure they are executed per the financial business
plan. Help remove bottlenecks and speed boat initiatives when required.
● Senior stakeholder management: Bank ExCo (executive committee - CEO, COO, CFO, Business MDs), Shareholders (Pollen Street Capital & BC Partners) & the Board
● Key projects:
o Launched a Strategy committee for Bank's executive management team across business and functional
teams to ensure prioritisation, budgets and deadlines of key projects are aligned with group strategy and the financial business plan
o Led key initiatives such as group digital transformation project and co-led the operational efficiency
project - Defining objectives and targets in line with group strategy, designed and carried out the partner
selection process
o Go-to-market strategy for launching Shawbrook in Jersey. Assessed alternative strategy, acquisition vs
organic set up. Created a financial business plan to assist the exco and board to make a decision. Also
involved in the initial stages of deciding the product strategy
o Led and co-ordinated the strategy, planning and performance interactions with Shareholders & the Board
o Organised board strategy day and prepared the strategy papers
