I have 6 months experience working as an editorial assistant for a publisher which specialises in reports for the textile and fibre industries. Most of the reports produced were written by native English speakers for businesses based outside of the UK and reports were written in a very complex, technical writing style. Whilst working for this company, I was also involved in the editing of work by writers based in India, China and Bangladesh, helping me develop an aptitude in editing work written by those who spoke English is a second language. The publications which I was responsible for editing consisted of monthly bulletins, which were approximately 4,000 words, short reports, which were approximately 8-10,000 words, and long reports which were approximately 15-25,000 words. Long reports were priced at £500, short reports were priced at £250 while bulletins were part of a £250-a year subscription.



Having this role developed my ability to manage my time effectively when proofreading as every report that I edited had a strict deadline. I was obligated to proofread a bulletin in approximately an hour, to proofread a short report in 2 hours and a long report in 3-5 hours, depending on length.



I also have a postgraduate diploma in Statistics and in my last job I was responsible for designing charts, and entering and checking data and statistical models. I am available for proofreading work (approx £10 per 4,000 words) and also available for designing charts and testing statistical models (rates would vary).
