My experience
2002 - 2010
job
Studio Manager & Retoucher
Gilchrist.
Initially I was employed as Project Leader in Strasbourg, France to oversee an existing facilities-managed operation in turmoil. The brief was to stablise the interaction between Gilchrist and its client Steelcase; to regenerate the facilities
managed production studio, making it a working and profitable entity.
During my six months in Strasbourg, I intergrated with the clients' team and created workflows and new procedures
place for both the Gilchrist and Steelcase teams, interviewed local staff, employed and trained locally based staff to take over when I returned back to London.
A sustainable operation was left in Strasbourg and on my return to London I oversaw the French studio until it was
purchased by Steelcase from Gilchrist 3 years later. Steelcase requested that my employment for the Strasbourg
studio continue and offered a relocation deal, but this was not possible due to family commitments.

Back in London my primary task was to assist in revamping the ailing satellite office there. I rebuilt the studio's
production and project management teams. Bought in new services for the smoother and more cost effective running of the office. Designed and built production workflows and became responsible for decisions on hard/software
purchases for both flagship and satellite offices.
Still carrying out full production tasks, I also undertook complex retouching and colour swatch-matching projects
alongside the studio management and training. Booked and oversaw advertising campaigns. Advised clients on
production methods/issues. Participated in technical and budget meetings, colour viewings and undertook press
passes for flexo, litho and gravure processes.
I was integral in the regeneration of the London studio that went from a few thousand to over two million pound
turnover in under three years.
Gilchrist won the PrintWeek Creative Repro Company of the Year award in 2008 and 2010.

Various Freelance Roles
unknown.
During this year I undertook some short-term contract work. For one prepress company I did a three month stint
appraising the reprographic production as a whole, spending a few weeks in every department.
For another company whose main trade was photography and retouching, I was brought in to head up a small
in-house artwork and repro team producing profiled adverts for worldwide publication. Production-wise this was very
successful but unfortunately the business development team could not support the unit with enough clients to keep the unit viable.
I also undertook packaging retouching and press passing, and a short term role producing scanned and swatch
matched high end wallpapers and fabrics (this role was to help profile the scanner for colour-correct output).
A further short-term contracted role was the assessment and colour mark-ups of fine are prints for a major book
publishing company.
