2013 - 2017
job
Design Technician (Highway Drainage)
Water Consulting.
As a Design Technician for Mouchel I was working within the Water Consulting business group
for clients in the highway sector. The projects I was involved in assisted Highways England to
provide safe roads and reduce the environmental impact by removing surface water from carriageway and improving water quality.
My responsibilities included supplying the engineers with accurate drawings, using 2D and 3D
computer aided design (CAD) software; these drawings could then be used during the Value
Management, Tender and Construction phases of the schemes. The drawings needed to be
completed to programme to ensure that the project is delivered on time and within the agreed
budget. Design schemes were delivered to the agreed design standards as prescribed within
Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and the Manual of Contract Documents for
Highway Works (MCHW). The schemes range in size from minor works to Asset Support
Framework Contracts on Highways England's high-speed network within Area 1.
During my time with Mouchel I identified opportunities for time / cost savings and implemented these as best practice within the team.
I also undertook asset surveys, taking detailed measurements and investigations to support the scheme delivery as well as topographical surveys and bill of quantities for the investigation
schemes, comprising of all design items, investigation items, site compound and traffic
management options.
During my time for Mouchel I was nominated by my colleagues to apply for National Apprentice of the Year.
In addition to the above my role accountabilities include:
• Training staff in the use of AutoCAD and Civils 3D
• Develop and maintaining good client relationships
• Provide appropriate technical guidance to other team members
• Attend and contribute to project meetings internally and with clients
