In June 1996 I was promoted from Sales Manager to Managing Director (but retained sales responsibility). I introduced quality management control systems (ISO9000 and ISO14001) to the business so that the company could step up a level in the size and complexity of the contracts it could bid for. The company ultimately became a Tier One supplier to Ford's global business and achieved the Q1 award which is the amongst highest Automotive Industry accolades. Sadly, despite building the turnover from £1.3 to £5.8m, the business lost ground to overseas firms and was no longer viable as a stand-alone entity and ceased trading in 2006.
