My experience
2013 - ?
freelance
Technology Consultant
Adventure Pictures, London.
My collaboration with Adventure Pictures began over a decade ago, when I had been invited to develop SP-ARK, an educational platform for film students and aspiring filmmakers. Telling the story of a film by showing every aspect of the production – from the initial idea through screenwriting, budgeting and casting to the composition of an individual shot, SP-ARK enabled users to understand the genesis of a major film inside out.
The initial project revolved around Sally Potter’s fully digitised film production archive for an Oscar nominated, BAFTA winning movie Orlando.
The value of this educational resource became immediately apparent. The initial product has since been incorporated into a graduate and postgraduate curriculum at several universities.
The main learning from the initial project was that the current approach was not very scalable. The manual digitisation process was a major undertaking, almost overshadowing the actual product development. Over the years we have been working together to try and solve this challenge. During this engagement we have finalised our approach and technical architecture for a system which would completely automate digitisation and archiving of any film production, connecting various hardware and software platforms used by filmmakers, for which we have a patent application.
Most recently, as part of the Adventure Pictures Creative team worked on the festival2022 submission.

Tech Lead, Grow
Google.
Led the tech team, defined product architecture, and provided technological consultancy for Grow with Google, and Digital Workshop, one of Google’s flagship projects.
This high-usage, high-visibility, multi platform e-learning system offered fully localised training and certification to users in over fifty languages.
Working closely with internal teams and external agencies, I was responsible for technical strategy, architecture and delivery of this award winning e-learning product across multiple platforms: web app, and fully native iOS and Android.
From the inception, the project had a very strict set of technological constraints, and a very broad set of highly complex functionalities. The main challenge when setting up the architecture was to minimise the cost, maximise the speed of delivery, whilst retaining flexibility for future developments.
The initial architectural setup has remained unchanged for the duration of the project, despite the project significantly expanding in scope and increasing the user base. The project, initially designed for just several EU markets, has been expanded globally to over 60 countries and languages, and the user base grew over 100 times larger than the initial estimate.
The product has been developed by a globally distributed team of suppliers. The suppliers have not only been separate legal entities located in different countries, but each supplier provided a separate, isolated, pieces of functionality. In my role, I had to ensure that all the suppliers work as a team, and deliver a coherent, uniform code base and product.
In addition to managing a constant steep development cycle, I was also responsible for security, privacy, and ensuring products are fully compliant with Google’s development policies and standards.

Technical Director
rehabstudio.
Led a multinational, multi-agency R&D team to deliver both the physical and software components of a novel and innovative Google product. The product was developed using WebGL to allow users to perform complex 2D and 3D image manipulations in real time with graceful fallback for legacy devices.
Product was also able to create, in real time, 3D product visualisations of a completely customisable physical product.
I lead a team of around 25 highly specialized senior developers, across multiple locations, which have been responsible for taking a very ambitious idea and developing it into a product in just over a year.
