Key responsibilities:
• Member of the Further Education Governance and Quality team. Setting out the roles, functions and legal duties of governing boards in maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trust. Describing effective governance and where governing boards can find support.
• Responsible for delivering policy analysis aimed at improving the quality of further education and training provided by further education colleges;
• Delivered overall operational and project management support for the Strategic College Improvement Fund (SCIF), a £15 million fund set up to provide grants to colleges that needed to improve the quality of their education and training offer. This included tracking the overall delivery of the project (e.g. budget, running costs etc.), monitoring risks and regularly updating senior management;
• Assessed applications for accessing the fund, including by carrying out desk-based qualitative and quantitative research and analysis on colleges that applied to obtain grant funding under SCIF, using a wide variety of official data sources. This helped to build evidence to inform recommendations on whether to approve the provision of financing;
• Provided more comprehensive policy development as part of the pilot phase of the SCIF project by contributing to the organisation and running of stakeholder workshops, drafting papers and helping with minute taking and logistics on the day;
• Managed ad-hoc strands team projects that contributed to broader divisional strategic objectives. For example, I developed a new survey to assess better the levels of staff satisfaction and well-being within my division. I also managed the promotion of Trustees' week within the Department.
