CARER.
(September 2017 - October 2020)
I was a carer for my partner. Society often undervalues the work of carers within the home leading people to omit this vital role from their CV. However, I believe my role as a carer has taught me many invaluable skills that earlier paid work has not. Becoming a carer does not come with any job training or guidance manual, as a result my role has taught me to use my initiative, to be self-motivated and to problem solve independently often under pressure. I've also learned to be very adaptable in my work patterns, especially when I was juggling my Masters with my caring role. I also made use of the research skills I obtained through my academic qualifications to navigate both the medical and social care systems to try to locate suitable help, services and treatments. This included both adult social care, personal independence payments, local support groups and community based treatments.
My extensive experience across a variety of sectors has helped me become a well-rounded individual, able to adapt easily to new roles, work well within teams including if I am holding a position of responsibility, and to always adopt an enthusiastic approach to my work. By completing a research Masters, I have been able to develop my ability to work independently without supervision, to project manage including scheduling under time constraint, prioritising tasks and working to a deadline. Whilst working on my thesis I conducted a lot of interviews which taught me how to engage in active listening to understand my participants' viewpoints which I feel is a skill that could be vital when talking to customers going forward.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and learning about nutrition. I also enjoy contributing to the growth of knowledge and alongside publishing my undergraduate dissertation, I have also presented my scholarship at several academic conferences both in the UK and abroad in the USA. I also volunteer at several charities including with Carers UK and M.E. Action including assisting in organising their Millions Missing fundraising event where I helped with digital marketing and organisation as well as practically on the day.

BATH SPA UNIVERSITY.
During my undergraduate degree I focused on studying the impact of the way in which the media portrays women and LGBTQ+ people, and political communication.
